Our History

The Supporters and Past Pupils Association (SPPA), is a body of individuals who work fervently in advocating on behalf of the blind and visually impaired of our nation.

Who are we?

The SPPA is an organisation under the Resource Centre for the Blind - which is an organisation under the Ministry of Education that benefits students with visual impairments by assisting them in schools with regular and Braille education.

Our Aim

The aim of the SPPA therefore, is to become a fully recognized group/body within the Resource Centre for the Blind for blind/visually impaired students within Grenada and possibly Carriacou and Petit Martinique.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to develop the current position of the Resource Centre for the Blind, that is, obtain more material such as; recorders, cassettes, canes, computers and eventually even a new building. All in an effort to make our present students’ - as well as those who may join us in the future, learning experience enjoyable and not tedious

Our Objectives

  • Liaise with the relevant authorities i.e. ministries, government officials, non – governmental organizations, teachers, parents etc. to improve educational services for the blind/visually impaired students.
  • Introduce blind awareness/health programmes in schools. E.g., Diabetes, and how it can be prevented through proper eating habits and the effect it will have on vision.
  •  Raise funds to purchase materials
  • Initiate programmes through the media and other corresponding agencies and persons, for educational awareness of persons interested and associated with blind/visually impaired persons.
